About the Auction
Beyond the Threshold is a national exhibition at the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery that brings together artists from across the country who explore the realities of homelessness and housing insecurity in Canada. As part of this exhibition, Tiny City Makers was invited to create a collection of 20 fused glass lanterns inspired by daily life in our community at A Better Tent City.
Fourteen residents worked alongside facilitators to design and create each lantern. Every piece reflects a cabin from our site, interpreted through fused glass, light, and colour. Together they offer a view into the creativity, resilience, and lived experience at A Better Tent City.
The lanterns have been on display in the Gallery’s main hall since the exhibition opened on September 20, 2025. Through this silent auction, we welcome the broader community to support the resident artists who created them.
“This represents how quickly and unorganized broken glass can drop on your lap when you’re homeless. But you have the opportunity to show how beautiful [it] can be when taken in stride. Simplicity is not always best.”
